So Mr. Darcy wasn’t an asshole after all… He was actually just a sensitive guy who assumed a callous, unfeeling facade in order to cope with the random cruelties and generally disingenuous nature of his family and of a cutthroat aristocratic society. He loved Miss Elizabeth Bennet since the start, and only reacted unfavorably towards her because she totally wrecked the impervious emotional blockade that he had worked so hard all of his life to construct. He fell for her, he fell for her hard, and he hated himself (and by extension her) for buckling in weakness in the grip of love…. I guess people…… aren’t always…… as they appear….
